I Know the Secret!
It is a sickening sight for a magician to look out into his audience and see one of
his spectators nudging and pointing when he does his famous sleight. These people who
are so delighted that they have figured out a trick that this plodding magician has worked
on takes a little spirit and fun from everyone. They expose and make rumors of how a
certain trick or illusion is done and these people who used to watch the fabulous art with
awe are now skeptical to what the prestidigitator is doing and keep their eyes focused on
that which they shouldn"t. They loose all focus on what is supposed to be happening
theoretically and concentrate on what is actually happening.
I think it is agreed by all magicians and artists alike that this shameful act that
some laypeople have taken up as their own hobby should be shared by all. It is not fair
for certain members of an audience to be the only people that get to nudge and point
when a magician is up on stage performing his art and showing off his skills. If all
people could knew how the trick or illusion was done then they too could do it and this
would as we know it would become a much happier and mystical place. It is true that all
magicians and performers of that nature would have to take up new professions and that
most of them would become broke and most likely homeless. But it is also true that
everyone would be having the time of their lives performing those tricks for their friends
and family.
Just think about all of the conveniences that magic would bring to our fast paced
life. The next time you are at the grocery store and you are a dollar short, you can now
just reach up into the air and pluck a ten dollar bill. Even better, you could pluck a
twenty or a hundred dollar bill because why should you stop at just a one. Teenagers
would get plenty of use out of knowing magic. The next time their parents come into
their room and they have been smoking or growing marijuana they can instantly say that
the smoke is from flash pots and that the plant is actually a self blooming rose. Won"t
their parents be embarrassed when they see the marijuana plant bloom gorgeous rose
buds. Fake ID"s will be a simple task for teenagers to make and now they won"t have to
go to work or get an education because they can make anything they want appear. Every
sixteen year old out there has asked their parents for a car and they all get the same
response, "If you want a car, then get a job and buy one!" Who needs a job when you can
just make one appear. No one will ask where it comes from because they already know.
I"m suggesting that we produce more shows on TV the expose the secrets of
magic. We have some that are out already but if we want everyone nudging and pointing
then we will have to produce numerous specials and get more people like Lance Burton,
Dai Vernon, Brett Daniels, Penn and Teller, David Copperfield, and Zigfried and Roy to
expose their secrets that they have spent years of practice and research on. I know that
they won"t mind. There already are people out there that are doing their part to make this
happen. Penn and Teller, Becker, and Mac King have spent numerous hours telling the
world how everything is done and it shouldn"t stop there. The Internet has been doing its
part to kill the suspense of an illusion and it is updating its files all the time.
The world would be a much better place without magic being a profession. No
longer will people be mystified and curious about what just happened when a man pulls a
rabbit from his hat. They will be concentrating on their jobs and the problems of their
life instead of worrying about how a trick is done. This could happen if we just let the
secrets from generations of magicians be revealed to the public.
